Founder of KAI & Colorado native Joey Coleman suffered a traumatic injury in 2017 when he crashed paragliding in Colombia & broke his spine. Unable to move his legs, & facing the very real possibility he’d never walk again, he underwent an emergency spinal fusion. The surgery was a success, but he had a long road to recovery ahead.

After regaining the ability to walk, he slowly began his journey to rebuild strength. However, he quickly found that any activity would leave him with agonizing pain. Every activity, except swimming.

And so, Joey’s journey led to the sea.

When he was in the ocean, he was weightless, & the pain went away. The sea inspired him, pushed him & ultimately helped heal him.

The sea, which in Hawaiian, is called KAI.

Next, Joey began looking for an all natural solution that would help with the aches & pains that came from the other activities he loved: hiking, mountain biking, climbing, running- all which left him with back pain, nerve issues & sleepless nights. His journey led to cannabis, & within weeks of regular use, he began feeling the benefits. It reduced his inflammation, improved muscle recovery, his joints no longer ached & he could sleep again.

So he set out on the long road to providing cannabis products that would deliver all the healing properties he experienced.
